Art Gallery 21 wants to know … do you plein aire?

You are invited to join other artists on Saturday, November 19 beginning at 8 AM to set up your easel somewhere along Wilton Drive from the rainbow bridge on the south end (near Dairy Queen) north to NE 6th Avenue (The Shoppes of Wilton Manors) for a plein aire paintout. It is roughly six (6) city blocks and Saturday morning traffic is very light. You may encounter pedestrians out for a morning walk, some with their canine friends.

We’ve never done anything like this before, so we don’t know how it will go. The truth is, that’s pretty much up to the artists. Along Wilton Drive you will find Richardson Historic Park & Preserve, Hagen Park (where the gallery can be found) and Justin Flippen Park. There are colorful murals, a wide diversity of architectural styles, and nooks and crannies to explore. We think it might be a plein aire artist’s urban dream. We hope you’ll think so, too.

Art Gallery 21 will be open from 8 to 9 AM for registration. We’d like to know who is participating. You can stop by the gallery to pick up a map and let us know you’re going out to paint OR you can call 954-225-5488 the morning of the paintout and let us know where you are. We’re planning to have someone on the Drive documenting the painters, so please tell us if you’re out there painting!

Art Gallery 21 is hosting the opening of its first ever all plein aire exhibit, “The New Golf: Plein Aire,” on Saturday evening (the same day as the paintout) from 6 to 8 PM and artists participating in the paintout who are so inclined are welcome to display their paintings during this time.

Since this is our first time doing this, we welcome any comments or suggestions artists might have to make this a wonderful Saturday cultural adventure. We’d love to see you early in the morning of Saturday, November 19th for a plein aire paintout on the Drive!
