The Art of Barbie Exhibit 2019

March 9 – April 6, 2019

Art Gallery 21 was pleased to host an exhibition of original art, art installations and a 1/6 scale interactive diorama paying homage to the 11.5-inch global icon, Barbie®, and leading an exploration into the cultural value of “play.”

The exhibit was open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 12 Noon to 8 PM and docents were on duty to provide guided tours and information. Presented free to the public thanks to the support of Broward Cultural Division and Wilton Manors Community Affairs Advisory Board.



Exhibit GRAND OPENING – Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 7 PM – 9 PM 
Barbie turned 60 on March 9th and more than a hundred guests celebrated with prizes, party favors and refreshments! The evening was filled with tours of the Barbie art exhibit, mingling with local Wilton Manors artists and art lovers and taking selfies with our fun, interactive Barbie installation designed for visitors to conduct their own photo shoot with the most famous fashion doll in the world!

WORKSHOP: Characters in Search of a Dollhouse – Saturday, March 23 from 2-4 PM

This photography workshop taught participants how to use Barbie (and, other toys) in photography and visual storytelling. With slides, video and various backgrounds and sets, they learned how to develop themes and heard tips on the processes used to photograph the world’s most famous doll! Facilitated by one of our featured artists for The Art of Barbie Exhibit, Brett Butler, an award winning photographer and writer. Free to the public.
