Hot town, summer in the city …

Today is the First Day of Summer and we’d love it if you would join us THIS Saturday evening, June 24th, at 7 PM when we will unveil our latest exhibition of art, showcasing the works of  five very talented local artists: Darlene Fenster, Carol Finlayson, Barbara Pardon, Heidi Reiter and Henry Rhommerdahl.

Our art socials are legendary for the friendships and refreshments we offer and these neighborhood gatherings provide an opportunity for visitors to meet the artists and talk about art. We are especially excited because one of our artists is über talented and has promised to perform just for us!!! You don’t want to miss this!

If you are unable to join us this week, we hope you will visit any Saturday through July 15th to see this lovely art exhibition. We would love to see you again or meet you for the first time!

EDITOR’S NOTE: Last weekend’s 18th Annual Gay Pride Festival in Wilton Manors was a huge success! Well over 10,000 people came out to see the parade and share in the celebration of #peace, #love and #equalrightsforall! Thank you to our fans and followers for understanding why we couldn’t hold our art opening as originally scheduled.

Summertime and the living is easy …

UPDATE: Wilton Drive will be closed as will all City buildings for the annual Gay Pride Festival. We are postponing the gallery opening to Saturday, June 24 at 7 PM. We apologize for the inconvenience.

It sounds trite, but, where did the time go? It seems as though it is slipping away, into the future. All the more reason to welcome summertime. The snow birds are gone, school is out and the pace is laid back and easy. Let’s enjoy it, shall we?

This Saturday evening at 7 PM we will open our newest exhibition of art, showcasing the works of Darlene Fenster, Carol Finlayson, Barbara Pardon, Heidi Reiter and Henry Rhommerdahl. As is our practice, there will be an art social, an opportunity for visitors to meet the artists, to talk about art, and, to make new friends or meet up with old ones. There is art worthy of our attention and, once again, there are surprises in this show. But, you have to come see for yourself!

Please join us on Saturday, June 17th, or, visit any Saturday through July 15th. We would love to see you again or meet you for the first time!

Diversity, Equity & A Paycheck

There are 26 photos, framed and hanging on the walls of the gallery.

Chairs are gathered ’round a microphone, awaiting the stories that will be told. A pith helmet stands ready to gather the names of the storytellers, written on little slips of paper. A straw hat awaits the names of the judges. A few refreshments, a prize for the winner and wonderful weather, all upon a Saturday night.

Will they come? And, if they do, how many will they be? Will they like what they see? And, will they stay and share their stories?

So many questions, but, alas, the answers must wait. Until Saturday night. The doors open at 7 PM and we look forward to seeing you again or meeting you for the first time! Meanwhile, enjoy this music video of “Workin’ For A Livin'” from 1982. It’s just so apropo!

It’s the month of love and we’re loving the art in our newest exhibit which opens Saturday, February 4th at 7 PM when you can meet the artists  … Robert Gross, Celia Diaz, Dirk Eberle, Errol Gross, Natalee Jones and Louise Meredith! They will all be on hand to meet you and talk about their work or anything else you’d like to discuss. Our artists are among the most sociable folks you’ll ever meet!

This exhibit is a showcase of some of the finest local artists there are here in Broward County and their work will be on display through March 4, 2017.

Art Gallery 21 is located in the former Woman’s Club of Wilton Manors, 600 NE 21 Court, in the heart of the Arts & Entertainment District. Gallery open Saturdays through February.

The art walks have returned!

Tomorrow night, the event formerly known as the art walk will return to the Wilton Manors Art & Entertainment District. Now called Wilton Manors Art & Entertainment Expo, it will be held the third Saturday of the month, January through March this year.

Art Gallery 21 is pleased to be a part of the WMAE art walk and we hope to see you tomorrow night, January 21, 2017! If you haven’t seen the current exhibit, now’s your chance! Maybe you have friends or family visiting or are just looking for a fun evening out … if so, this is a really good alternative to the movies or bowling! Browse the local businesses showcasing individual artists as well as our galleries, then have a drink and a bite to eat. Our weather is fine this time of year, perfect for an art walk!

Artists interested in participating in the February art walk can find details and artist registration information at http://www.wmae.org/

Wilton Manors Art & Entertainment Expo is presented by WMEG and the City of Wilton Manors.

Happy New Year!

They say, “time flies when you’re having fun,” and it’s true for us at Art Gallery 21, too! In 2016 we presented eight art exhibits, showcasing the work of  57 local artists! We obtained 501(c)(3) tax status with the IRS making us a bonafide nonprofit organization and we secured our first grant from the Florida Humanities Council to serve as a host site for the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit, “The Way We Worked!” All in all, we think it’s been a very good year!

We are super excited about  what’s coming in 2017! Beginning with our January exhibit featuring the winners of the fifth annual Island City Juried Art Competition, we will be hosting our art openings on Saturdays! We did an informal survey and it turns out that more folks would come to the gallery openings if they were held on Saturdays, so, ask and you shall receive! Add the return of the art walks on the thirds Saturdays of the month in January, February and March and we’ve got a recipe for art mania! LOL! Artists interested in participating in the Wilton Manors Art Expo can sign up here!

We will see the addition of the Wilton Manors Welcome Center come to life in January! It took a while to identify volunteers to serve as our Good Neighbor Ambassadors, but, we finally have enough wonderful folks signed up to greet visitors and newcomers to the island city, and we know we’ll be adding more in the new year! The art gallery is the perfect place for people to come and find out what we’re all about here in Wilton Manors … a diverse community of cultural aficionados eager to share our joy with others!

If you’re in the neighborhood, please come by and meet “The Winners” when their show opens on Saturday, January 7, 2017! Angie Riserbato, Tedd Davis, Rodger Helt, with Susan Marie David and Jyotsnaben Patel will be on hand to talk about their creative process and their work. We will open the doors at 7 PM and you’re welcome to come join in the celebration of art and community! We serve refreshments along with our fellowship and we’d love to see you again or meet you for the first time!

Celebrate the season with art!

Art Gallery 21 is super excited about the show scheduled to open Friday, December 9th! Come celebrate the season with us and meet the exciting lineup of artists!

We have an exciting new artist whose work is very impressive: R. R. Robinson. We’ve seen the art and we can hardly wait to meet the artist! Her work is reminiscent of watercolor illustrations in a storybook and we think you’ll be as charmed as we are!

jose_time_imaginary_time_1We’re thrilled at the return of an artist that has been in our gallery family since we opened our doors in 2012: José Herazo-Osorio! His work has evolved since the last time we had the privilege of showing his art and we’re truly moved by the passion and love of the human form he shows in his new paintings.

20161202_193632-webA past juried show winner, Pat Wahl, is included in the exhibit along with her daughter-in-law, Jean Wahl. We love it when art runs in the family! We are extremely fond of Pat’s beautiful Cypress Forest painting that she’s submitted. It’s a dreamy work of art!

And, last, but, certainly not least, is Luz Valencia, a woman filled with laughter who creates art filled with color and light.

As is our tradition, we will celebrate the spirit of the season on Friday evening, December 9th beginning at 7 PM! We would love to have our friends and followers join us! If your busy holiday schedule prohibits you joining us, have no fear! The gallery will be open Friday evenings from 7 to 9 PM throughout the month of December.

Do pay us a visit! We’d love to see you again or meet you for the first time!
