The Artist Behind The Art: AVIVA

Celia, Bob and Aviva in City Hall 2004

Aviva Sasson has been with Art Gallery 21 since our days hanging art in Wilton Manors City Hall and participating in the newly established Island City Art Walk. Aviva was among the volunteer artists that helped to clean and paint the Woman’s Club of Wilton Manors as we converted it into the art gallery we know today.

A graphic designer by profession, Aviva immigrated from Israel to live in Florida in July 2002.  She says she knew she wanted to make art even as a child and took classes in watercolor and oil painting in the 1990s. She signed up for art classes with Robert Gross in 2005 and it was under Bob’s creative guidance that Aviva found her artistic voice as an oil painter. She has studied with Bob for 15 years and he has helped her to release her talent, which, as you can see, is colorful and bright and full of energy.

Aviva loves landscape and still life painting equally, she says.  She engages in group outings to Tree Tops Park in Davie for plein aire painting sessions with her friends, some of whom appear in her paintings! More recently, Aviva has taken to painting portraits. We are charmed by her self portrait and thank her for allowing us to share it here.

NOTE: The Woman’s Club of Wilton Manors, the physical home of Art Gallery 21, is currently closed to the public. However, Art Gallery 21 is alive and well and pivoting to stay current in this new normal. We hope you will come along with us as we discover new ways to connect art, artists and art lovers! #ARTworks
