THE DETAILS
After our successful paintout in November 2022, we applied for and were granted funding from Broward Cultural Division to do it again! We will once again host a one-day Plein Air paintout and competition along Wilton Drive, from the rainbow bridge at the south entrance to the island city north to the intersection of Wilton Drive, Dixie Highway and NE 26 Street, locally known as 5 Points.
Artists will compete for cash prizes. The paintout will take place from 8 AM to 12 Noon on Saturday, November 18, 2023, rain or shine.
Artists will create art featuring park settings, canal views, local architecture, public art and murals, and street life along Wilton Drive. The public and collectors will be invited to be on the lookout for artists at work on that day. This is a traditional painting/drawing competition, so photography, digital, printed or painted over photographs will not be accepted. Art Gallery 21 reserves the right to refuse any artwork if the method with which it was created is questionable.
Based on the number of participants delivering their artwork to Art Gallery 21 at the conclusion of the paintout, Janet Onofrey, an award winning plein air artist and teacher, will select up to 30 works of art for exhibition. Her criteria for selection includes compelling visual impact; craftsmanship; composition; not photographic, but real; the piece takes on and overcomes the challenges of painting outside. There will be a Children’s Category for exhibition.
ENTRY FEE: $20 per entry. There is no fee for the Children’s Category. All proceeds go to support the gallery’s programs and projects. Please be advised that there are no guarantees of acceptance into the exhibit and there are no entry fee refunds.
CALENDAR
PAINTOUT: Saturday, November 18 | 8 AM to 12 Noon
Meet at 12 Noon at Island City Cultural Center to view everyone’s art and gain insight and encouragement and, maybe, to submit art for exhibition. A completed entry form is required to submit for exhibit.
ART INTAKE: Saturday, November 18 | 12:30 to 2:30 PM
3 PM: Artists PICK UP art not accepted for exhibit.
Saturday, November 18 – 5 to 7 PM
