Art Gallery 21 and the City of Wilton Manors are pleased to announce the debut of a fantastic and vibrant new public art sculpture on Wilton Drive — THUNDERBUNNY is a 13 foot-7 inch glass mosaic bunny rabbit sculpture created by world renowned artist, Hunt Slonem.

As Wilton Manors’ local neighborhood art gallery dedicated to bringing art and cultural experiences to the community, Art Gallery 21 worked with the City to bring this iconic bunny sculpture to the island city for a limited stay.  On loan from Fort Lauderdale’s New River Fine Art, it will occupy a special place in Justin Flippen Park located on the west side of Wilton Drive, across from City Hall.

The artist behind this glamorous, larger-than-life sculpture, Hunt Slonem, is an award-winning, internationally acclaimed artist known for producing abstract art that combines abstract expressionism with mysticism. Slonem has built a career as an artist around the country focusing on his favorite and best-known themes: bunnies, birds and butterflies. According to historical data, Slonem was fond of bunny rabbits because he had a few pet bunnies as a child. This inspired him to begin painting the fluffy, cuddly creatures in the 1980’s and became a major staple in his art career.

The City of Wilton Manors will host a dedication ceremony in the near future with  Wilton Manors Mayor Scott Newton and the City’s other elected officials and city management team. “Art Gallery 21’s team will be in attendance to celebrate and support this exciting public art sculpture initiative along with local media,” said Constance Ruppender, founder and president of Art Gallery 21.

City residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the massive Thunderbunny sculpture  and capture selfies or group photos. Post it on Instagram with #thunderbunnyWiltonManors for a chance to be featured in Art Gallery 21’s next local city art newsletter.
