Art Gallery 21 presents
“Outside These Walls” with Nature Photographers Kirsten Hines, Don Schwartz and Phoenix
Join Art Gallery 21 on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM when we unveil an extraordinary Nature exhibit featuring the photographs of Kirsten Hines, Don Schwartz and Phoenix. The inspiration for this exhibition of fine art photography is to transport the viewer “Outside These Walls” to a place of peace, allowing for contemplation of the world we share.
Kirsten Hines is an award-winning wildlife photographer, author, and conservationist. Her writing and photography have appeared in numerous publications, including her nine books on Florida’s nature and history. Her 2023 photo-essay book, Wild Florida: An Animal Odyssey, garnered multiple national and state awards including gold medals for Visual Arts in the Florida Book Awards and the National League of American Pen Women’s Marjorie Davies Roller Nonfiction Award. Her new field guide, Birds of Florida, covers 310 Florida species illustrated by 450 of her photographs, a feat she accomplished in two years. In addition to illustrating her writing, she aims to inspire conservation action through her story-telling, wildlife-oriented presentations, trips and workshops, and not-for-profit work. Don Schwartz and his wife, Ann, have traveled for 17 years for the cruise industry. He enjoyed taking photos of places they visited and when the pandemic hit, he concentrated on his photography with a Canon point and shoot camera, and spent his days at Arthur R. Marshall, Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, Green Cay and Wakodahatchee Wetlands observing the wildlife. He found joy in watching for baby alligators, bobcats, owlets, and even raccoons. Don is a member of the Audubon Everglades Photography Group and he and Ann have collaborated on five art exhibitions throughout Palm Beach County. He finds pleasure in sharing his photographs and especially enjoys people learning about the wildlife and the stories behind the photographs.
A graduate of the University of Miami and a native Floridian, Phoenix is an award-winning conservation photographer whose works are found in 100+ private and corporate collections worldwide, including Cleveland Clinic in Weston and Sunrise City Hall. Called a “legendary photographer” by art gallery curators and “intrepid” by collectors, Phoenix’s works are known for capturing the intersection of art and healing, evoking a sense of peace and meditation. She currently serves on the Public Art and Placement Advisory Board for the City of Fort Lauderdale and as president of the National League of American Pen Women-Fort Lauderdale Branch. Phoenix’s photographic images reflect her devotion to protecting the natural environment, her sense of oneness with the light and soul of the land and its inhabitants and a reverence for wild places. When not traveling, Phoenix calls the Everglades her studio. Visit phoenix.com to see more of her work.
