Art Gallery 21 in Wilton Manors presents The Winner’s Show

THE WINNER’S SHOW opening reception will take place on
Saturday, December 20 from 6 to 8 PM
Gallery Hours: Friday & Saturday from 5 to 7 PM and by appointment

The 14th Annual Island City Juried Art Exhibition was a huge success for the artists, and for the gallery. Our jurist, Janet Gold, spent an extraordinary amount of time reviewing each entry and selecting which works would be included in the exhibit and we are extremely grateful for her time and talent.

The First Place award went to the incomparable Abel Marquez’s “Conversations with Bouguereau No. 1.”

Janet’s note: “It is a masterful, brilliant, and clever take on the style of French Realistic Genre painter William Bouguereau. “A sensual mother and child deftly drawn solving the form, figure, fabric, and flowers. Then, to juxtapose the contemporary hard edge of the black and silver metal of a camera stand and place it in the front plane of the drawing is both unexpected and intriguing. This drawing exemplifies everything that I look for in a work of art, both proficient skill and a personal point of view.”

Second Place went to a small gem of a gouache painting entitled “Intracoastal” by Angie Riserbato.

Janet’s note: “It is a well painted, well solved, and well-chosen composition, an other moment in time and a slice of life along the intracoastal. The painterly application of the gouache on the trees, buildings, and water sing in the forefront, as the buildings pale in their perspective in the background.”

Third Place went to Chrissy Quaglieri for her aptly titled “Beneath the Noise.”

Janet’s note: A brilliantly solved mixed media composition. The harmonious color palette and curvilinear line and shape mix with the perfect placement of accent lines, to exemplify a well solved collage.”

Honorable Mention to Henry Rommerdahl for his sweet and alluring painting “Beach Skiff”.

Janet’s note: “A masterful interpretation of a moment in time captured by the artist; the well rendered and detailed grass and boat in the foreground, paired perfectly with the soft and subtle hazy atmospheric landscape in the background, shows a mastery of the medium.”

Honorable Mention to Nessie Yara for her juicy and colorful “Blossoming Reverie.”

Janet’s note: “Well placed shape, form, color, and line, move the viewer around the canvas in this high energy painting. There is a joy evident in the creation of this work.”
