YVETTE VAS

Born in Goa, India, Yvette was whisked away to São Paulo, Brazil with her family when she was still an infant and it was there that she would grow up. She says she wasn’t particularly artistic as a kid, that, in fact, she had a lot of difficulties in her art classes. During a high school vacation, Yvette took to borrowing books from the library about drawing. She practiced diligently and actually completed a few paintings by the time she graduated.

In 2003, Yvette enrolled in classes in oil painting and porcelain painting which she enjoyed very much. Then, two years later, she signed up for classes at Broward Community College in Davie with Robert Gross and she said she realized she was working with a true master. He taught her the basics of oil painting and he encouraged her to try watercolors. Today, Yvette paints in both mediums. She says she loves to paint landscapes and nature, and, she especially loves painting orchids because of their vibrant colors and expressive “faces!” She’s inspired by the culture and colors of her two homelands and enjoys the camaraderie of her fellow artists.
